Trail work at Three Bridges Oak Preserve
December 19, 2024
The Trail Crew was out in force to work on a section of the Oak Woodland Trail that needed some work. The trail had worn down to the rocky sandstone underlayer causing hikers to migrate to the downhill side of the trail, essentially creating a two tiered path.
The crew cut into and reshaped the trail back to a single tier and adjusted the out slope to ensure water runs off the trail and not down it (causing erosion).
Now is a good time to perform trail work because the soil has moisture in it from the recent rains. Moisture in the soil allows it to be easily compacted and hardened.
