El Camino Real, West Mall, & Printery Planting Projects

In an early streetside planting project ANTA planted a selection of native trees, including coast live oak and sycamore, along the margins of El Camino Real.  These trees have become well established in some areas, and can be seen along the east side of El Camino Real near Del Rio Road.

ANTA also planted a selection of native trees in the median of West Mall in the mid-90's, near the entrance to Atascadero High School.  Many of these trees became established and include coast live oak, sycamore, redbud, and alder.  In February 2020, with the help of the AHS Earth Club, two valley oak trees and two toyon shrubs were planted to fill in vacant spaces.  The Earth Club will care for these new additions.

ANTA assisted in establishing a native tree and shrub screen between the Printery building and adjacent residential units.  Plant materials included toyon, as well as sycamore and coast live oak.

These early planting projects were implemented using volunteer labor.
