Our Mission

The Atascadero Land Preservation Society (ALPS) is a local, private, non-profit, 501(c)(3), conservation organization founded in 1989. Our mission is to preserve environmentally significant open space, undeveloped natural land, and native trees in Atascadero, California.

ALPS is a land trust. We acquire land by outright gift and through purchases financed by grants and cash donations. We strive to open our properties to the public for passive recreational and educational purposes where consistent with our mission of preserving the natural environment.

We are committed to responsible stewardship of our properties through fire hazard reduction, litter removal, elimination of exotic species, reintroduction of native species, trail construction and maintenance, fish and wildlife habitat restoration and protection, and the planting and protection of native trees.

ALPS is comprised entirely of volunteers. We depend upon the generosity and support of our members and local area residents.
